As an MC, your role is to keep the event flowing smoothly and ensure that guests are informed about what’s happening. You’re the link between the wedding party and the guests.

Before you announce speeches, make sure that the venue has champagne ready if it will be served for speeches, otherwise give people a 5 minute warning to charge their glasses.

Familiarise yourself with the order of events, from speeches to dances, and who is involved in each. Introduce yourself to the DJ before guests enter the reception and discuss the order of events to make sure you and the DJ are on the same page.

Understand the couple’s expectations. Discuss any special announcements or traditions they want to include.

Dress appropriately and remember that you’re there to enhance the event, not steal the show.

Your energy sets the tone for the event. Stay positive and enthusiastic, no matter what happens.

Things may not always go as planned. Be ready to think on your feet and make adjustments as needed. The order of events is esentially a guideline and should be treated as such. Adapt to what is happening in the kitchen for example, if dinner service is running late, move speaches forward for example. The trick here is to think on your feet, constant communication with the venue , co-ordinator, DJ and photographer will make sure that the order of events feels natural no matter wat happens.

Rehearse your introductions, announcements, and jokes ahead of time. This will help you feel more confident and polished on the day of the event.

When making announcements or introductions, be concise. The focus should be on the couple and their celebration, not on you.

Remember to have fun! If you’re enjoying yourself, chances are the guests will too.
